I love an em-dash.

When I find a music lyric that moves me, I think about it for days. When I find a movie quote I love, I rewatch the scene over and over again. When I see an ad I adore, I play it on a loop.

I’ve loved writing since I was a little girl. I remember Ms. Jackie, my fifth-grade teacher, made us write short stories in her writing class. I titled my story “Suck-Sess”—get it?! It turns out I was already playing with words back then.

When I was about ten years old, I could recite an ad for Suavitel, a fabric softener, word for word. The ad was in Spanish, and I remember reciting it for my family, amusing them every time. The tagline, “Suave como el amor de mamá” (soft as a mother's love), stayed with me. Connecting the dots backward, it’s clear why those words stuck with me; I think a good ad lingers and evokes emotion. In this case, it brings back wonderful, nostalgic memories for me.

Beyond writing, I’ve always had a deep passion for art. Painting is my creative outlet, allowing me to explore emotions and stories visually.

I gather inspiration from art, films, music, literature, and daily life. Sometimes, a friend shares something brilliantly funny or profoundly inspiring, and I unapologetically weave those one-liners into campaigns—after all, what sets apart a remarkable ad if not its relatability and ability to forge connections?

My SCAD background shaped me into the creative I am today—it made me a bar-raiser.

Some of my favorite ads include Nike’s “We Are All Witnesses,” Coca-Cola’s “Hilltop,” Metro Trains Melbourne’s “Dumb Ways to Die,” P&G’s “Thank You, Mom,” and Disney+’s “Well Said.” Yes, I clearly love a brand film.

As for books, here are my top five: Paula by Isabel Allende, My Father Before Me by Chris Forhan, Love in the Time of Cholera by Gabriel García Márquez, The Defining Decade by Meg Jay, and We Were Liars by E. Lockhart.

In creating anything, if you’re not reaching for a true connection with your audience, you’ve missed the mark.
